Bautechnik [BOW-tek-nik]: def'n - Building Science          (German: from Bau build + technik technology)

Bautechnik is a firm specializing in advanced building systems.  We are the only active rammed earth builder in Eastern Ontario, as well as one of the few firms in Eastern Canada with in-depth expertise for the unique requirements of cross-laminated timber (CLT) buildings.  Beyond these two phenomenal green building materials, we provide consulting for complex building science issues (energy, acoustics, air quality, etc) as well as financing integrated renewable-energy systems.

Bautechnik built the very first two rammed earth structures in the national capital region, a garden studio and a 3 bedroom home.  The house built of rammed earth also happens to be the most energy efficient rammed earth house ever built, utilizing less than 10% of the energy of a similar home built to code.

Successful projects are achieved in large part from Bautechnik's roster of outstanding people, drawing from the city's leading engineers, exceptional craftsmen, and brilliant designers - all of whom bring an uncompromising dedication and routinely exceed expectations.

One percent of net profits are given to Habit for Humanity -- we believe that contributing back into the community is as essential as reducing our energy usage.

Meaghan Beirne started Bautechnik with the intent to create green-building solutions that are both smart and useful. Her background in UX and user-research means that the famous quote from Susan Dray, 'if the user (or homeowner) can't use it, it doesn't work' drives her to developgreen building solutions that bridge advanced technology for the home and better energy use over the long-term.  Her dream is to one day live in a house that is connected to a 100% renewable energy, independent smart-grid.

Bautechnik's Managing Director is Carl-Peter Reinecke.  He is likely the only person in the world who is at once a master rammed earth builder as well as an environmental economist.  His experience in the industry began as a student when we worked in construction.  Later, through owning his own properties and seeking to undertake renovations, he noticed the construction industry lacked building science services for single family homes, particularly for sensible energy efficient solutions.  Today, he is one of the few practicing building scientists in Ontario focusing especially on residential house construction and is a certified building energy consultant (by the Government of Germany, where the most stringent building codes are in effect).  Another area of specialization involves providing technical support to architects for projects involving Cross-Laminated Timber and other mass timber applications for low-rise buildings.

Peter's building philosophy is simple: make durable structures that payoff for the client.  Going beyond simply striving for "quality" and "eco", he takes a resolute approach in creating sustainable solutions that are clearly matched with a return on investment.
